Who Will You Be In 2017?

We are now in the closing days of a truly historic year. 2016 gave us everything from an abundance of mannequin challenge videos to some of the most intriguing political times in recent memory. Take a moment and just reflect on everything this past year was…

MIXED EMOTIONS that has to be the natural response and end result of almost all of us as we reflect.
This year was fill with good and bad alike, both for the world as a whole and for each of us personally, to summarize this year in a few sentences would be impossible. And that is most likely because for most of us it was a blur.

It was within the first two weeks of 2016 that David Bowie and Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) had passed away, and that truly seems like just yesterday. This year has gone by in a blink, and if most of us are honest, we have let this year slide by. Little to show for such a long time.

However, this is the beauty of New Year’s no matter what 2016 looked like for us, we are stepping into new ground in a few short days, and we have the ability to choose our course. This prompts the question:

WHO WILL WE BE IN 2017?

We cannot expect the world to change for us, 2017 will likely move no slower than 2016. So we must have an anchor, a foundation, something to cling to when all else is moving faster than we can comprehend. And there is only One that will stand strong through everything in life, only One who has overcome the world: JESUS! This may seem like a cliché battle cry for Christians, but think…

What if in 2017 we explored who Jesus is more deeply than we have before?

What if in 2017 we actively sought to walk more in line with the Spirit?

What if in 2017 we trusted God and His Word with everything we have?

But those things don’t just happen, it takes work. And that is the way with an anchor or a foundation, they don’t just happen because a ship captain or project manager believe, they work towards their goal.

That is what we as Christians must do in 2017, drop anchor properly, and establish a solid foundation. Is there anything more worthy to push into this year? Could anything be more important than knowing the God of love more fully? Because out of that flows everything! This is a worthwhile endeavor, one that we can reflect on in December 2017 with joy, knowing more fully that everything we have and need, all our hope is set on Christ Jesus our Savior.

That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
